Question

I have been busy, and one of my new years resolutions is to only be on the computer a maximum of 1 hour....

I have some confusion about a point, and thought I would ask the experts on here.
I know Addy came out in like 92 or 93. But there's a listing one ebay that says that an Addy doll has a dress that is tagged 1986 West Germany.... I was assuming that when a dress or doll is tagged with a date, that was the year it was produced, eg: a tagged in 1986 Molly, was produced in the lot that year that was produced. Their next batch would be labeled, 1991. Am I under the wrong assumption? Because I was assuming that the date on the tags would help you identify the year they were produced. BUT if the seller was right about Addy's dress being tagged such, then that scenerio wouldn't apply.

I hope that I made myself clear. I am looking to eventually buy a premattel Molly and Samantha, but want then to be from the ealry days of Mattel. Beacuse if clothes that were manufactered in 1995 were labeled 1986, then that would cause me some trouble. I hope I am making sense. Thanks for your help.

Hope that everybody is having a Great New Year, and enjoying their dollies!

The year on the tag doesn't give you any clue to when the dress was manufactored (well you know it wasn't before then) it's just a trademark date for the american girl brand.

If they had 1986 tags still lying around they could use them, even if new 1991 tags were also being used.

I think sometimes the tags might say Pleasant Co. 1986, because that's when the company was established, not the doll. I think she came out in 1993 . . .

    Hi,

I am hardly a expert, but here is some info.

The date on the tags is the date of the copyright not the age of the dress. Addy came out in 1993. It was sometime in the mid 90's (I think around 1994) that the dolls started being made in China. I have a 1993 Addy but I am not home to look to see what the labels on her clothes say.

When Felicity was released in 1991 her clothes have tags that say 1986 but of course they were not made in 1986 they were made in 1990 or 91.

The tags saying 1986 are very mis leading. Which is why Curts site is so important.

    Hope this helps.

Interesting point. I never thought about that!! One way you can tell the age, too, is by looking at the boxes or the Meet book that comes with the doll.

And that is a wonderful resolution!!

I really need to cut back, too.

Addy was officially released to the public in 1993. In 1992, a select number of Addy prototypes were on display at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC for President Clinton's innaguaration. I believe those are the ones with the flowered dress that pop up on ebay. The tags that says 1986 West Germany are first release Addys as far as I know.

Thanks so much for the response, you guys have really clarified a lot for me. Thanks a bunch! I really hate not knowing what I'm doing when it comes to something I'm doing. Did that make sense? I need to go to bed, my eyes are a little blurry. But thank you very much!

Actually I am finding that the less time I spend on the computer, the more time I have to enjoy life and the less agitated I get. Computers are addicting and they can put BIG holes in your aura. Never a good thing. Good night one and all!

The very first Addy dolls are tagged (on the dress) 1986 W. Germany and are different from the slightly later ones. I've seen quite a few and found that the ones tagged 1986 on the dress are the very earliest ones and have slightly different face molds, hair, and coloring than those tagged 1993. Addy was released in 1993, but I don't know when she was first produced. Same goes for Felicity. Both my Felicity and my Addy came tagged 1986 and I've compared 86 Addy with 93 Addy, and they are a bit different. I have pictures if you're interested. Hope that helps!
